Your first week is full of new experiences – from meeting your fellow volunteers to learning local customs and routines. It’s exciting, but can feel overwhelming too.
That’s totally normal! International Working Holidays NZ ensures every volunteer has a full orientation, local support, and the tools to settle in comfortably. We’ll guide you through every step and be there when you need help.
Once you settle into the rhythm, you’ll start to feel like you belong – and that’s when the magic happens. You’re not just visiting anymore – you’re contributing, growing, and thriving.
Most volunteers say the nerves melt away by day three, once they’ve met the team and found their groove. You might start helping with animal care, assisting at local schools, or diving into hands-on conservation – whatever your project is, we’ll ease you in gently. There’s always someone around to ask questions, share a laugh, or offer a helping hand.
Remember, it’s okay to feel out of your depth at first – that’s all part of stepping out of your comfort zone. Before long, you’ll be waking up excited for what each day brings. And by the end of your programme, you’ll be amazed at how far you’ve come, how many connections you’ve made, and how much you’ve grown.
