It started with a bad paycheque... and a big idea
Back in 1991, founder Vicki Kenny packed her bags for her own big OE (Overseas Experience). She landed in the UK as a live-in nanny, navigating cultural quirks, strange jobs, and the occasional bounced paycheque (yes, people still used cheques back then).
There was no one to guide her. No one to call when things went wrong.
When she returned to New Zealand, Vicki knew she could do better for the thousands of Kiwis looking to spread their wings. She started helping friends secure safer, smoother overseas placements, offering the kind of support she’d wished for.
And so, International Working Holidays was born.
Today, we’re proud to be a Kiwi-born organisation that helps travellers from all over the world take the leap, knowing we’ve got their backs every step of the way.
